Yemen’s Houthi rebels (Ansar Allah) have confirmed their readiness to coordinate militarily with Iran, raising fears of a wider war in the Middle East.
In an interview with the Arab broadcaster Al-Mayadeen, Houthi political leader and spokesman Mohammed Al-Bakhiti stated that the movement is in full contact with regional resistance groups, particularly Iran, and is monitoring the situation closely.
Referring to earlier statements by Sayyed Abdul Malik Al-Houthi, Al-Bakhiti said: “Our finger is on the trigger, and we are ready to intervene if necessary.” He added that Yemen is waiting for the appropriate moment to join the conflict and is coordinating with Iran accordingly.
Regional Implications
Al-Bakhiti emphasized that Iran has the right to target US military bases in the region, which he claims are launching attacks against Tehran. Analysts warn that if the Houthis actively support Iran, strategic chokepoints such as the Bab al-Mandab Strait could be closed, severely disrupting global trade and halting Saudi oil exports.
“The Red Sea could be engulfed in flames,” experts say, noting the risk to global shipping lanes and energy security.
Houthis’ Message to the Region
Al-Bakhiti also addressed other Arab and Islamic nations, claiming that the US has no concern for Gulf security and is attempting to involve regional states in a war against Iran. He urged all countries in the region to adopt a unified stance condemning US aggression and to support Iran.
“This war has been imposed on us and will continue until we succeed in fulfilling our conditions,” he said, describing the conflict as a “decisive battle” that will ultimately result in “the victory of truth.”
Iran’s Support and Ongoing Conflict
The statement coincides with Iran-backed protests across Yemen on International Quds Day, where demonstrators expressed solidarity with Hezbollah and Iraqi resistance movements.
The broader war, which began with US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, has entered its 15th day. According to reports, Iran’s armed forces have carried out more than 48 retaliatory operations under “Operation Sadiq Promise 4,” targeting Israeli military sites and US bases in the region.
As tensions rise, the alignment of Yemeni Houthis with Iran could significantly escalate the conflict, putting key maritime routes and Gulf oil exports at risk, while raising concerns over broader regional stability.
