Zardari's Personal Physician Confirms President is

President Asif Ali Zardari’s personal physician, Dr Asim Hussain, reassured the public on Saturday, stating that the former president is “medically fit” and will be discharged from the hospital within the next 48 hours. Zardari, who tested positive for coronavirus last week, has been undergoing treatment in Karachi since being moved there due to a lack of health facilities in Nawabshah.

In a press briefing on Saturday, Dr Asim explained that the former president first reported symptoms on Eid day, describing weakness, shivering, and fever. Initially, Dr Asim suspected a urinary infection and prescribed medication. However, Zardari’s condition worsened by the evening of Eid, prompting Dr Asim to travel to Nawabshah that night. Due to inadequate medical facilities there, Zardari was transferred to Karachi early on Monday morning for more comprehensive testing and treatment.

Following his arrival in Karachi, Zardari underwent a series of tests, which confirmed he had contracted the coronavirus. Dr Asim stated that certain antiviral medications were sourced from abroad to treat the president, as these drugs were not available in Pakistan. The treatment began immediately, and Zardari’s condition has since improved.

Dr Asim assured the public that Zardari was feeling better and would be discharged in the coming days. He emphasized that the form of coronavirus infecting Zardari was not as severe as the earlier variants, adding that it could be treated effectively with antiviral medication.

Responding to speculation about the president’s health, particularly rumors of his death, Dr Asim dismissed them as “AI-created” and “fake”, urging the public to avoid such misinformation.

Zardari, who is 69 years old, has faced a number of health challenges in recent years. He tested positive for COVID-19 in July 2022 but only experienced mild symptoms. He has also had previous health issues, including a foot fracture in October 2024, and eye surgery in March 2023. Despite these challenges, Dr Asim assured that Zardari’s current health condition is stable, although he continues to manage blood pressure and diabetes.
