Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to meet with key European leaders in the United Kingdom on Friday for high-level talks on military aid aimed at countering future Russian aggression as the war enters its fourth year.
The meeting, hosted by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the Foreign Office in London, will be attended by NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, and Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof. Around 20 other world leaders are expected to join the session virtually as part of the “Coalition of the Willing,” a group committed to sustaining Ukraine’s defence capabilities.
Discussions will focus on strengthening Ukraine’s air defences, protecting its power grid from Russian missile and drone attacks, and providing longer-range missiles capable of striking targets deep inside Russian territory. The agenda reflects growing urgency as Ukraine braces for another harsh winter under relentless bombardment.
In recent weeks, Russia has intensified air strikes targeting Ukrainian civilian and energy infrastructure. Widespread rolling blackouts have been imposed nationwide, including in Kyiv, as authorities ration power supplies.
Prime Minister Starmer condemned Moscow’s ongoing aggression, saying,
“Time and again we offer Putin the chance to end his needless invasion and stop the killing, but he repeatedly rejects every proposal for peace.”
Meanwhile, Russian forces claimed new territorial gains, capturing villages in Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Dnipropetrovsk regions, while Ukraine reported a rare drone strike near Moscow, which injured five people.
Friday’s meeting also seeks to tighten economic pressure on Russia, following new U.S. and EU sanctions aimed at cutting off Moscow’s vital oil and gas export revenues.
While hopes for a ceasefire remain distant, Western leaders reaffirmed that Ukraine will not be left isolated, pledging sustained military and financial backing until Russia ends its aggression.
