POLITICS & POLICY MAKING

Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Jr., the grandson of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and son of Mir Murtaza Bhutto, has strongly criticized the encroachment on the Indus River and the corporate farming policies affecting Sindh’s farmers.
Speaking to the media during his visit to Thatta, Bhutto Jr. stated:
🔹 “The Indus River is like a lifeline for us, and those protesting against its encroachment will become part of a greater movement.”
🔹 “Sindh is burning with unrest, inflation, hunger, and poverty, yet the PPP has done nothing for the people despite ruling for 20 years.”
🔹 “The government is treating Sindh and Seraiki Wasib like colonies, just as the British occupied lands in the past.”
Encroachment on Indus River
Bhutto Jr. alleged that land along the Indus River is being occupied for the benefit of a specific class. He supported ongoing protests against the construction of canals diverting water from the river and emphasized that every conscious citizen of Sindh must resist.
Opposition to Corporate Farming
He also raised concerns about corporate farming, stating that:
⚠️ Lands are being taken from local farmers
⚠️ The harvest will be exported for profit, not for local consumption
⚠️ Farmers in both Sindh and Punjab are resisting corporate farming policies
💬 “Corporate farming is designed for profits, not for feeding our people. Farmers’ hard work will benefit only big businesses, while our own people suffer.”
Political Future & Family Support
Bhutto Jr. has not yet announced whether he will participate in the upcoming general elections. However, he emphasized that he would make a decision after consulting his family.
💬 “My sister Fatima Bhutto and my mother are supporting me. I am nothing without my sister.”
The event was attended by various PPP leaders and workers, including Dr. Lakmir Palari, Lala Sagar Sheikh, Babu Ehsan Bhutto, Ghulam Mustafa Palari, Chandi Khan Brohi, Zahid Sharif Palari, and Pir Bakhsh Samon.
As Bhutto Jr. positions himself as an alternative voice against PPP’s rule, political observers are keenly watching his next move. Will he officially enter politics? The decision remains pending.
