3 Cops Injured in Blast on Highway Police in Balochistan's Nasirabad

Three police officers were injured on Monday in a remote-controlled bomb blast targeting a highway police vehicle in Balochistan’s restive Nasirabad district, officials confirmed.

According to Highway Police Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khadim Husain, the attack occurred in the Rabbi area, roughly 12 kilometers from Dera Murad Jamali, while a routine patrol was underway.

“Three personnel were injured in a blast targeting a patrolling vehicle of the highway police in Nasirabad’s Rabbi area,” SSP Husain told reporters.

Preliminary investigations indicate the blast was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated remotely. The injured officers were swiftly transported to a hospital in Dera Murad Jamali for treatment.

Security forces cordoned off the area, and a search operation is currently underway. No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

Context of Escalating Violence in Balochistan

Balochistan has seen a sharp rise in insurgent attacks in recent months, with the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) being named a key perpetrator of terrorism in 2024.

This latest incident follows a series of violent events in Nasirabad:

·       In May, unidentified motorcyclists injured four people in a grenade attack on a house.

·       In March, police foiled a sabotage plot ahead of Pakistan Day, recovering a cache of explosives.

·       Just last week, two militants were killed by security forces during an operation in Duki district.

Pakistan’s Security Concerns

Pakistan is currently ranked second on the Global Terrorism Index 2025, reflecting the persistent threat of terrorism, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Insurgent groups in Balochistan, long involved in a low-intensity separatist insurgency, appear to be intensifying their attacks against law enforcement and state infrastructure.

Ongoing Investigations

SSP Khadim Husain confirmed that a full investigation is in progress to identify and apprehend those responsible.

“The police have initiated an investigation,” he stated. Further details are expected as the inquiry progresses.
