Three suspected terrorists affiliated with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Tipu Gul group were killed in a late-night joint operation by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and local police in the Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to Lakki Marwat police spokesperson Aamir Khan, the intelligence-based operation was conducted in the Bathani Neh area near Harama Tala village, where a 25-minute gun battle ensued. Three militants — identified as Waseemullah alias Umar Khattab, Qudratullah alias Abu Bakr, and Hijratullah alias Hijrat — were neutralized in the encounter.
The slain militants were residents of Gundi Khan Khel and Serai Gambila Town’s Harama Tala area and had been wanted by the Bannu CTD for a series of serious crimes. These included IED blasts, targeted killings, and armed attacks on police personnel.
The police statement confirmed the militants’ involvement in the recent killings of CTD official Waheedullah, Traffic Constable Anwar Sher, and Constable Idrees, among other acts of terrorism.
Lakki Marwat, located near the southern border of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has increasingly become a flashpoint for terrorism. The district has seen a surge in militant violence in recent months, despite continued efforts by local peace committees and law enforcement to contain extremist activity.
Just last week, a peace committee leader and two of his companions were gunned down in the same district. In a separate incident in June, three militants were killed during a clash in Kot Kashmir, in which a police officer was also martyred.
Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying intelligence-based operations in high-risk areas like Lakki Marwat to dismantle terror networks and prevent future attacks. Security forces remain on high alert as the region grapples with escalating threats from militant factions operating under various banned outfits, including the TTP.
