At least 11 people were killed and six others injured in two separate traffic accidents in Balochistan on Saturday, local officials confirmed.
The first tragic incident occurred in Panjgur district when a fuel-laden pickup truck collided with a passenger coach near Panjgur Bazaar. According to Assistant Commissioner (AC) Jawad Zehri, the crash was so intense that both vehicles immediately caught fire, engulfing passengers in flames.
“Eight people were burnt alive at the scene, six of whom were passengers in the coach,” AC Zehri said. A passing motorcyclist was also injured in the blaze and has been shifted to Karachi in critical condition. The deceased were identified, with six belonging to Khuzdar and two to Panjgur. Authorities said Levies personnel have launched an investigation, and the bodies are being transported to their native areas.
In the second accident, three people lost their lives and five were injured when a passenger coach traveling from Quetta to Islamabad collided with a car in Pishin district and overturned. Karizat AC Muhammad Hamza confirmed that two people died instantly, while six others were rushed to the Quetta Trauma Centre.
Dr. Arbab Kamran, Managing Director of the Trauma Centre, said immediate medical aid was provided. “Unfortunately, one of the injured succumbed on the way to the hospital. Two others remain in critical condition, while our entire medical team is engaged in saving lives,” he told Dawn.com.
Balochistan has seen repeated tragedies on its roads, with poor infrastructure, reckless driving, and overloading often cited as contributing factors. In July, three people, including a woman, were killed and nine others injured in separate road accidents in Chaman and Mach.
Saturday’s incidents once again highlight the pressing need for road safety enforcement and improved transport regulations in the province.
