A tragic blast targeted a vehicle carrying personnel of the Balochistan Constabulary on Tuesday morning, leaving three policemen martyred and at least 16 others injured in the Mastung district's Dasht Road area, according to officials.

The vehicle, carrying more than 40 policemen returning from deployment in Kalat, was attacked using an improvised explosive device (IED), said Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind. He confirmed that three jawans were martyred and 16 injured, with two in critical condition.

Local administration officials said the blast struck the bus carrying officers deployed to assist with a protest sit-in by the Balochistan National Party—Mengal (BNP-M), which entered its 19th day today. On the protest’s second day, BNP-M leader Sardar Akhtar Mengal survived a separate suicide attack near the rally.

Mastung Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Younas Magsi stated the injured were immediately shifted to nearby medical facilities, and those in critical condition were referred to hospitals in Quetta, approximately 50 kilometers away. An emergency was declared at Bolan Medical Complex Hospital and Civil Hospital in Quetta.

No group has claimed responsibility yet. However, the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), which intensified its violent campaign in 2024, remains a key suspect in the ongoing wave of attacks.

This attack comes a day after a Frontier Corps soldier was martyred during a terrorist assault in Noshki, where two attackers were killed, and another incident in the same district saw a failed attack on a Levies post.

National Leaders React

The deadly attack drew strong condemnation from top Pakistani leadership. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to defeat terrorism.

“We will thwart the nefarious designs of the terrorists... Our war against terrorists will continue until the scourge of terrorism is completely eradicated from the country,” said PM Shehbaz, who also ordered immediate medical aid for the injured.

President Zardari offered prayers for the martyrs and the swift recovery of the wounded.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi honored the fallen as national heroes, stating, “Martyrs will always live in our hearts,” while condemning the cowardly act of terrorism.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti directed the provincial health minister to ensure optimal care for the injured and warned that no negligence would be tolerated. He stressed that those responsible "do not deserve any concession."

Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah termed the attack a national tragedy and emphasized unity to combat terrorism. “The entire nation will have to unite to fight against terrorists,” he stated.

According to the Global Terrorism Index 2025, Pakistan ranks second among countries most affected by terrorism, with deaths rising by 45% to 1,081 over the past year.
