Hand Grenade Attack Injures Cop at Bajaur Police Post

A police officer was slightly wounded after unidentified attackers hurled a hand grenade at a police post in Khar tehsil of Bajaur district, officials confirmed on Thursday. The incident occurred on Wednesday night near the Jinnah Bus Terminal, roughly three kilometres from the district headquarters.

According to district police spokesperson Israr Khan, “One cop was slightly wounded in the attack, which caused no damage to the post. Other personnel remained safe and secure.” He noted that a section of a nearby hotel sustained damage during the blast.

A police team immediately responded to the scene and launched a search operation to apprehend the attackers. No group has claimed responsibility for the incident so far.

The attack is part of a troubling spike in assaults on law enforcement in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Last week, a police officer was killed in a shooting at a post in War Mamund tehsil of Bajaur. In February, four cops were martyred and two injured during an attack on a patrol party in Bajaur, and an additional station house officer was killed in another assault in War Mamund tehsil.

Authorities have urged vigilance as investigations continue and security measures are reinforced across the district.
