Twelve security personnel, including 10 soldiers and two Frontier Constabulary members, embraced martyrdom in a terrorist attack on a joint security checkpost in Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the military’s media wing, ISPR.
The incident occurred on Tuesday in the Mali Khel area when militants attempted to storm the checkpoint. Although troops effectively repelled the attack, a suicide blast led to the collapse of the perimeter wall, causing significant casualties.
In retaliation, security forces killed six attackers, whom ISPR referred to as khwarij (outcasts). A sanitization operation is underway, with the military vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack and paid tribute to the fallen personnel. PM Shehbaz declared that the sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces will not go in vain, reaffirming the nation’s resolve to eliminate terrorism.
This incident follows a sharp increase in militant activities across KP and Balochistan, highlighting the escalating challenges faced by Pakistan's security forces.
