5 Terrorists Killed, 2 Apprehended in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Operations: ISPR

Pakistani security forces killed five terrorists and arrested two others in three separate intelligence-based operations (IBOs) conducted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the military's media wing, ISPR, said in a statement on Saturday.

The statement said that these operations were launched in response to credible intelligence reports about terrorist presence in different districts of KP, including Bajaur, North Waziristan, and Mohmand.

In the first operation, conducted in Bajaur District, three terrorists — referred to as Khwarij by state forces — were neutralised during a heavy exchange of fire. Among them was a high-value target (HVT) identified as Kharji Fareed Ullah.

A second operation in North Waziristan's Dossali area led to the killing of two more terrorists during an intense gunfight. Security forces effectively engaged the targets, ensuring no casualties on their end.

In the third IBO, conducted in Mohmand District, two terrorists were apprehended alive. One of them was another HVT, named Kharji Lal Ameer Ibrahim. The ISPR noted that weapons, ammunition, and explosives were recovered from the captured individuals, who had been involved in multiple terror plots across the region.

“Sanitisation operations are being conducted to eliminate any remaining threats. The security forces of Pakistan remain committed to eradicating the menace of terrorism,” the statement emphasized.

Pakistan has witnessed a sharp rise in terrorist incidents, particularly in KP and Balochistan, following the collapse of the ceasefire between the state and the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in November 2022.

According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, March 2025 marked the highest number of militant attacks in over a decade, surpassing 100 incidents in a single month. Moreover, the Global Terrorism Index 2025 ranked Pakistan as the second most affected country by terrorism, with fatalities rising 45% in the past year to 1,081.

Just last month, 54 militants attempting to infiltrate from across the Pakistan-Afghanistan border were killed by security forces in North Waziristan — a stark reminder of the ongoing threats along the frontier.

As Pakistan continues its war against militancy, the recent operations highlight the state's resolve to maintain internal security and neutralize networks operating within its borders.
