Pakistan Successfully Tests Fatah Missile Amid Tensions with India

Pakistan on Monday successfully carried out a training launch of the Fatah Series surface-to-surface missile, with a range of 120 kilometers, as part of its ongoing military exercise “Ex Indus,” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed.

The successful launch took place during a period of heightened military alert following escalating tensions with neighboring India in the aftermath of a deadly attack in occupied Kashmir’s Pahalgam region on April 22, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists. India has accused Pakistan of links to the attack without providing evidence—an allegation Islamabad has categorically rejected, demanding a neutral investigation instead.

According to the ISPR, the training launch was aimed at validating the operational readiness of troops and the missile’s technical parameters, including its advanced navigation system and improved precision. Senior officers of the Pakistan Army, as well as scientists and engineers from strategic organizations, were present to witness the launch.

Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza and Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir congratulated the troops, scientists, and engineers involved. “They expressed complete confidence in the operational preparedness and technical proficiency of the Pakistan Army to thwart any aggression against the country’s territorial integrity,” ISPR said.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also lauded the success of the launch. The president extended his congratulations to the scientists, engineers, and security forces, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to its national defence. Meanwhile, the prime minister stated that the test demonstrated Pakistan’s defence was “in strong hands” and expressed confidence in the professional capabilities of the military.

The latest Fatah launch follows another successful test of the Abdali Weapon System—a surface-to-surface missile with a 450km range—announced by ISPR just two days earlier. Last year, the army also tested the Fatah-II guided rocket system with a 400km range, equipped with advanced terminal guidance technology capable of evading anti-ballistic missile systems.

The recent tests come as Pakistan remains on high alert, responding to cross-border shelling across the Line of Control (LoC) by Indian forces since April 25. The Pakistan Army has responded to these provocations, vowing to defend every inch of its territory.

In a high-level security briefing held in Islamabad, DG ISPR Lt General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry and Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar informed members of political parties about the nation’s preparedness. “If aggression is imposed on Pakistan, the forces are ready to give a befitting reply,” DG ISPR stated.

The situation continues to evolve, with diplomatic tensions running parallel to military maneuvers. However, Pakistani leadership has reaffirmed its resolve to protect the country’s sovereignty at all costs.
