Tump AC Muhammad Hanif Noorzai Abducted in Kech, Balochistan

Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Hanif Noorzai, posted in the Tump area of Balochistan’s Kech district, was abducted on Wednesday morning while traveling from Quetta, according to official sources.

Speaking to Dawn.com, Kech Deputy Commissioner Bashir Ahmed Barich confirmed that unidentified militants kidnapped the senior government official near the Iran-Pakistan border. No additional details have yet been provided regarding the incident or the identity of the kidnappers.

Noorzai, a resident of Quetta, is a seasoned officer who has served as Assistant Commissioner in multiple regions of Balochistan. His abduction has raised fresh concerns over the deteriorating security situation in the province, particularly in areas bordering Iran and Afghanistan, which have been prone to militant activity and smuggling routes.

Security agencies have reportedly launched a search operation to trace Noorzai’s whereabouts, but no breakthrough has been reported so far.

This incident follows similar high-profile abductions in the past. In 2016, Asad Khan Tareen, son of then-Balochistan Minister for Local Government Sardar Mustafa Tareen, was kidnapped from Pishin. He was eventually recovered from Qila Abdullah, near the Pak-Afghan border, after several months in captivity. That case, like many others, highlighted the vulnerability of even well-protected officials in conflict-prone areas of Balochistan.

Authorities have yet to determine whether a ransom demand has been made or if the abduction is politically or criminally motivated.

The incident has sparked concern among civil service officials and public representatives, who are urging the provincial and federal governments to take swift and decisive action to ensure the safe recovery of AC Noorzai.

Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
