Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir addressed the participants of the 15th National Workshop Balochistan, emphasizing that foreign-sponsored terrorism is a significant threat to the security and development of the province. The event saw participation from parliamentarians, bureaucrats, civil society members, and media personnel.
The 15th National Workshop was initiated in 2016 and has seen increasing participation from key sectors, including parliamentarians, youth, civil society, and educational institutions. The workshop is designed to prepare future leadership in Balochistan to address important national and provincial issues in a coordinated manner. A significant representation from Balochistan has been ensured at the event.
General Munir stated that the government is focused on improving the socio-economic situation of Balochistan. He also noted that there is a need to counter misinformation surrounding ongoing projects in the region, emphasizing that the fruits of development projects are beginning to reach the people of Balochistan. He praised the role of civil society members in raising awareness, particularly among the youth, who now play an integral role in the province's development.
Addressing the issue of terrorism, General Syed Asim Munir stressed that foreign-sponsored terrorism posed the biggest threat to Balochistan’s security and development. He warned that the nefarious intentions of hostile elements aiming to spread fear, incite violence, and destabilize the province would not be allowed to succeed. He reiterated that terrorism knows no religion, sect, or ethnicity, and must be fought with unwavering national unity.
The Army Chief further highlighted that terrorist groups exploiting the name of Baloch identity to further their conspiratorial agenda were a blot on Baloch pride and patriotism. General Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to respond decisively to any violations of its sovereignty and territorial integrity. He assured that the Pakistani armed forces and law enforcement agencies would continue their efforts against terrorism with the full support of the Pakistani people.
The workshop concluded with a detailed question and answer session, providing an opportunity for participants to engage with the Army Chief on various topics.
