Imran Khan to Contest for Chancellor of Oxford University from Adiala Jail

In a surprising development, Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan and an Oxford graduate, will contest for the position of Chancellor of Oxford University while incarcerated at Adiala Jail. The news, confirmed by Syed Zulfi Bukhari, an advisor on international media for Khan, was reported by The Telegraph.
Khan, who holds a degree in Economics from Keble College, Oxford, is facing multiple legal challenges but remains committed to his bid for the prestigious academic role. The position of Chancellor became vacant following the resignation of Lord Patten, who served in the role for 21 years.
The election for Chancellor will be conducted online for the first time, departing from the traditional in-person process that required graduates to attend in full academic dress. Khan’s entry into the race adds a notable candidate to a list that includes high-profile figures such as former UK Prime Ministers Sir Tony Blair and Boris Johnson.
Despite his ongoing legal issues, including a fresh Toshakhana case and a dozen new cases from May 9, Khan’s campaign reflects strong public interest and support. His advisor, Syed Zulfi Bukhari, indicated that a signature campaign would commence once Khan formally confirms his candidacy.
Khan previously served as the Chancellor of Bradford University from 2005 to 2014. His bid for the Oxford position marks a significant moment in British academia, showcasing the intersection of global politics and higher education.
