Air Chief Sidhu’s Tenure Extended for Role in Victory Over India

In a major decision reflecting appreciation for the Pakistan Air Force’s crucial role in the recent conflict with India, the federal cabinet has approved the extension of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu’s tenure as the Chief of Air Staff.

The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where a series of significant military appointments and acknowledgements were approved, including the promotion of General Syed Asim Munir to Field Marshal for leading the successful Operation Bunyanum Marsoos and Marka-i-Haq.

The Pakistan Air Force (PAF), under the leadership of Air Chief Marshal Sidhu, played a vital role in countering Indian aggression during the conflict. The air force’s strategic operations were key in defending Pakistani airspace and supporting ground operations, ultimately contributing to what officials described as a “historic victory.”

Sidhu’s leadership during Operation Bunyanum Marsoos has been widely praised for precision, discipline, and proactive engagement, which helped neutralize multiple threats and coordinate retaliatory strikes. His extended service term comes as recognition of these contributions.

Appointed as the 16th Chief of Air Staff of Pakistan, Air Chief Marshal Sidhu assumed command of the PAF on March 19, 2021, succeeding Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan. A decorated officer, Sidhu has served with distinction throughout his career, rising to become a four-star officer within the air force hierarchy.

The Prime Minister’s Office reiterated that his continued leadership would ensure strategic continuity and operational readiness for future challenges.

This decision follows a series of honors announced for those who served in the conflict. Along with Sidhu's extension, the cabinet approved state awards for soldiers, martyrs, and civilians who contributed to the military efforts during Operation Bunyanum Marsoos.
