A special guard of honour ceremony was held at the Martyrs’ Memorial in GHQ Rawalpindi to honour Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, a day after his elevation to the army’s highest ceremonial rank.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Asim Munir laid floral wreaths and offered Fatiha at the memorial, paying homage to the sacrifices of Pakistan’s martyrs.
The ISPR said the Field Marshal dedicated this prestigious honour to the people of Pakistan, the Armed Forces, civil and military law enforcement agencies, and most importantly, the martyrs and veterans who have laid down their lives for the nation’s security and sovereignty.
The solemn ceremony reflected the gravity of the moment, with full military protocol in place. The event also underscored the Armed Forces’ continued respect for those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
It is worth noting that the federal cabinet formally approved the promotion of General Syed Asim Munir to the rank of Field Marshal yesterday, making him the first Pakistani officer in decades to hold the ceremonial three-star rank after Field Marshal Ayub Khan.
The elevation and ceremony come at a critical time as Pakistan confronts terrorism and cross-border challenges. As the Chief of Army Staff, now Field Marshal Asim Munir’s leadership has been central in launching decisive counterterrorism operations like Operation Bunyanum Marsoos.
