Arshad Nadeem to Receive Hilal-i-Imtiaz for Historic Gold at Paris Olympics 2024, Announces President Zardari

President Asif Ali Zardari announced on Saturday that Arshad Nadeem, Pakistan’s javelin throw sensation, will be awarded the Hilal-i-Imtiaz in recognition of his groundbreaking performance at the Paris Olympics 2024. This prestigious honor comes after Nadeem set a new Olympic record with a colossal throw of 92.97 meters, securing Pakistan’s first gold medal in 40 years and marking a historic milestone as the country’s first track and field medalist.

 

The announcement follows a unanimous resolution passed by the National Assembly, which called for the highest civil award to be conferred upon Nadeem. In addition to this honor, Nadeem has been awarded a combined cash prize of Rs151 million by the Punjab and Sindh governments.

 

In a statement issued by the presidency, President Zardari lauded Nadeem’s remarkable achievement, stating, "Arshad Nadeem has made the country proud in the field of sports with his excellent performance." The civil award will be presented to Nadeem in a special ceremony, further celebrating his monumental contributions to Pakistani sports.

 

Arshad Nadeem’s Olympic success not only marks a significant achievement for Pakistan but also for South Asia, as he becomes only the second South Asian athlete to reach the podium in track and field at the Olympics. His outstanding performance has inspired a nation and set a new standard for excellence in Pakistani athletics.
