Arshad Nadeem's Coach Calls Record-Breaking Throw 'Unbelievable'

Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem stunned the world with a record-breaking 92.97m throw in the javelin final, securing the country’s first-ever individual Olympic gold medal. His coach, Salman Butt, described the throw as “unbelievable,” surpassing expectations and shattering the previous Olympic record of 90.57m, held by the Netherlands’ Andreas Thorkildsen since 2008.

“I knew he had a big throw, but that was really surprising,” Butt said, visibly amused and proud of his athlete’s performance. The throw not only earned Nadeem the gold but also marked a historic moment for Pakistan, being the country's first Olympic medal in 32 years and the first-ever in Athletics.

India’s Tokyo 2020 gold medallist, Neeraj Chopra, claimed silver with an 89.45m throw, while Grenada’s Anderson Peters took bronze with an 88.54m throw.

Butt reflected on the challenging journey leading up to this victory, citing a rigorous 72-hour preparation period that included managing Nadeem's injury, technical adjustments, and maintaining his physical strength.

In Paris, the team found comfort and support in the Athlete's Village, where they praised the “clean, pristine environment” provided by the organizers.

Nadeem's monumental achievement has not only placed him in the annals of Olympic history but also brought immense pride and joy to Pakistan, celebrating its first gold medal in 40 years.
