BCCI Vice President Confirms India Won't Play Bilateral Series Against Pakistan Post-Pahalgam Attack

New Delhi: In the wake of the tragic attack at a tourist spot in Pahalgam district in occupied Kashmir, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that India will not engage in any future bilateral cricket series with Pakistan.
BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla made the announcement, stating that India's position on not playing Pakistan in bilateral cricket has remained unchanged. "We will not play Pakistan in any bilateral series in the future," said Shukla, emphasizing that the decision aligns with India's government stance on Pakistan.
The Pahalgam attack, which occurred three days ago, resulted in the death of 26 individuals and left dozens more injured. India’s Hindu extremist government has blamed Pakistan for the incident without conducting a thorough investigation, leading to heightened tensions between the two countries. In response, India has also suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, which governs the sharing of river water between the two nations.
Shukla stated, "We are with the victims and condemn this incident. Whatever our government says, we will do, and due to the government's stance, we do not play a bilateral series with Pakistan, and we will not play further bilateral matters with Pakistan."
However, the BCCI Vice President clarified that while India will not participate in bilateral series with Pakistan, the situation will be different in ICC events. He noted, "When it comes to ICC events, we play because of the ICC. The ICC also knows what is happening and will react to it."
This marks a significant shift in India's cricketing relations with Pakistan, continuing a longstanding absence of bilateral series between the two nations. India and Pakistan last faced each other in a bilateral series during the 2012 and 2013 seasons, with India's last visit to Pakistan dating back to the 2008 Asia Cup.
As the geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan escalate, it remains unclear when or if the two countries will resume direct cricketing competition.
