The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has extended the physical remand of Chanesar Town Chairman, Farhan Ghani, by three days in connection with a case involving the torture of a government employee.
During the hearing, Farhan Ghani and other accused were presented before the court. Advocate Waqar Abbasi submitted a power of attorney on behalf of the accused, while the prosecution requested an extension of their physical remand.
The investigating officer (IO) informed the court that the case had been registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act and that statements under Section 161 had been recorded from two individuals.
However, the court expressed strong dissatisfaction with the investigation, questioning the IO about the lack of progress. The judge harshly criticized the police, asking, “What progress have you made? Where are your sniffer dogs? Are they alive or dead? Do you people only know how to harass the common man?”
The court further rebuked the IO, questioning the role of law enforcement agencies like the CIA and SIU, and remarked that the police seemed more interested in trivial pursuits than in proper investigation. The judge also reminded the IO that the failure of the plaintiff to provide witnesses does not absolve investigators of their duty.
After the reprimand, the court extended the physical remand of Farhan Ghani and the co-accused by three days and ordered their production in court again on August 30.
The case, which involves allegations of torture and threats against a government employee, continues to draw public attention due to the court’s strong stance against ineffective police investigations.
