Section 144 Imposed in Nankana Sahib Amid Rising Flood Threat

The district administration has imposed Section 144 in river areas of Nankana Sahib to ensure public safety and prevent potential mishaps.

According to the official spokesperson, crossing the Ravi River without safety arrangements—whether by boats or rafts—has been strictly prohibited. Section 144 also extends to bathing in rivers and canals across the district.

Restrictions and Safety Measures

The administration emphasized that strict action will be taken against those who refuse to evacuate from flood-affected localities. Moreover, standing on bridges of rivers and canals has also been banned to prevent accidents amid strong water currents.

Private operators who intend to use boats for river crossing will now be required to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the district administration.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Tasleem Akhtar Rao issued the formal notification, warning that violations of Section 144 will invite legal action.

Background

The decision comes as hundreds of residents face displacement due to rising floodwaters in Punjab. In a related incident, reports indicate that 200 to 300 people remain stranded in Kartarpur, where the Pakistan Army continues rescue operations.

Officials have urged citizens to cooperate with authorities, avoid unnecessary movement near rivers, and prioritize safety until the flood situation subsides.
