The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) of Rawalpindi on Wednesday issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, in connection with the case registered over the November 26, 2024, protest.
During the hearing, Aleema Khan was represented by her lawyer Faisal Malik, while Prosecutor Zaheer Shah appeared on behalf of the government. The court was informed that 28 hearings have been conducted so far in the case. Lawyers of five other accused have completed the examination of 10 witnesses, but other witnesses could not be examined during this session.
The prosecution argued that Aleema Khan’s repeated absence was causing continuous delays in the trial and requested that the case be heard on a daily basis. Aleema Khan filed an application seeking exemption from appearing in court; however, the prosecution objected, stating that the required cause list of pending cases in Lahore was not attached with her application.
After hearing the arguments, the court rejected Aleema Khan’s exemption request and issued an arrest warrant. The next hearing of the case has been adjourned to Thursday, January 8.
This development comes amid ongoing legal proceedings against several PTI leaders and activists in cases related to public protests.
