ATC Sentences Two to Death in Sahiwal Blasphemy Case

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Monday sentenced two individuals to death in a blasphemy case, in addition to 22 years of rigorous imprisonment and fines totaling Rs550,000.

The case was registered at Kameer Police Station under FIR No. 710/24 on November 15, 2025, based on a complaint by a local resident. The alleged blasphemy incident occurred on July 17, 2024, and the FIR was lodged four months later, supported by testimonies from two local witnesses.

The court found the convicts guilty under Sections 295-A and 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code, Sections 7 and 9 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) 1997, and Section 11 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016.

In its detailed verdict, the court sentenced each convict separately:

  • Death and Rs500,000 fine under Section 295-C
  • 10 years imprisonment under Section 295-A
  • 7 years under PECA 2016
  • 5 years imprisonment with Rs50,000 fine under ATA 1997

A senior police official in Sahiwal confirmed that “a total of 22 blasphemy-related cases were registered in the district in 2025.”

This case represents one of the most severe blasphemy-related sentences handed down in Pakistan this year. Earlier in 2025, courts in Rawalpindi issued death sentences and long prison terms in multiple blasphemy cases, including convictions for posting blasphemous content online.
