The Sindh government on Friday appointed Additional Inspector General (AIG) Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Azad Khan as the new Karachi Police Chief, according to a notification issued by the Chief Secretary Sindh.
As per the notification, Grade-21 officer Azad Khan has been posted as Inspector General of Police, Karachi, replacing the previous police chief as part of a broader reshuffle in the provincial police command.
The notification further stated that Zulfiqar Lark has been appointed as Additional IG Special Branch, while Sharjeel Kharal has been posted as Additional IG Operations Sindh. Iqbal Dara has been given the additional charge of Additional IG Police Training Sindh.
In other postings, Pervez Chandio has been appointed as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Establishment, while Faisal Abdullah Chachar has been posted as DIG Mirpur Khas. DIG Nasir Aftab has been assigned the additional charge of DIG Sukkur.
The latest appointments are part of an ongoing administrative exercise aimed at strengthening policing, intelligence coordination and operational efficiency across Sindh, particularly in Karachi, which remains a key focus for law enforcement due to its size and security challenges.
Officials said the newly appointed officers are expected to assume charge immediately.
