The Sindh government on Wednesday appointed Karachi police chief Javed Akhtar Odho as the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, following the retirement of incumbent IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon.

According to a notification issued by Chief Secretary Sindh Asif Hyder Shah, “Mr. Allah Bux alias Javed Akhtar Odho, an officer of Police Service of Pakistan (BS-21) and Additional Inspector General of Police, Karachi Range, is assigned the additional charge of the post of Inspector General of Police, Sindh, in addition to his own duties, until further orders.”

Odho, who took charge as Additional Inspector General of Karachi last year, assumed the additional charge of IGP Sindh on the same day his predecessor stepped down. A police spokesperson confirmed the change in command.

In his farewell message, outgoing IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon highlighted his focus on “technology-driven policing” and “systemic investigation reforms” as key pillars of his strategy during his tenure.

Memon, a BS-21 officer, had taken charge as IGP Sindh in March 2024. Prior to this posting, he served as Executive Director of the State Life Insurance Corporation and held multiple key positions in the Intelligence Bureau (IB), including Director in Karachi (2006–2008) and Joint Director of IB Sindh (2011–2016).

In recognition of his professional achievements, Memon was awarded the Sitara-i-Shujahat and Tamgha-i-Imtiaz.
