POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
The Balochistan government has announced plans to increase funding for local government institutions, with allocations being based on their service delivery performance. This announcement was made by Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti during his visit to Sui, where he also inaugurated the new office of the Sui municipal committee.
Chief Minister Bugti emphasized the crucial role of functional local government institutions in addressing civic issues at the grassroots level. He highlighted that many of the citizens' grievances could be resolved locally, saving them the trouble of traveling to provincial offices and reducing unnecessary pressure on the provincial machinery.
“The efficiency of local government institutions is key to resolving issues at the grassroots level. A more functional system will allow citizens to access solutions to their problems without the added burden of long-distance travel,” Bugti said during his visit.
The chief minister further noted that an active and efficient local government would alleviate the strain on provincial resources, allowing the provincial administration to focus on broader, more complex issues while local matters are dealt with more swiftly and effectively.
Accompanying Chief Minister Bugti during the visit were Minister Mir Asim Kurd and Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan. Upon Bugti’s arrival at the municipal committee office in Sui, he was warmly welcomed by the committee’s chairman, Izzatullah, and other dignitaries. The municipal committee chairman also presented a souvenir to the chief minister as a gesture of goodwill.
This step by the Balochistan government is seen as an effort to strengthen local governance and improve the delivery of essential services to citizens, contributing to the region's overall development.
