POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former Speaker of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser emphasized on Wednesday that while the party’s negotiation committee is fully authorized to engage in talks, all final decisions will be made by the party's founder, Imran Khan.
Speaking to Geo News in Peshawar, Qaiser stated that a meeting with the PTI founder is their foremost demand in the ongoing negotiations. “A suitable environment must be created for the meeting, allowing meaningful consultation,” he added.
The PTI leader underscored that any negotiations without Imran Khan’s input would be "meaningless." He further highlighted the importance of Senate elections, describing them as a fundamental right for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “Reserved seats and Senate elections are among our key demands,” he said.
Addressing concerns regarding military courts, Qaiser affirmed PTI’s commitment to challenging their decisions at all legal forums.
His comments come after the first round of negotiations between the government alliance and the opposition, chaired by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq. The second session of talks is scheduled for January 2.
Meanwhile, PTI’s Barrister Ali Zafar also reiterated that the negotiation committee’s role is limited to discussions, with the authority to make decisions residing solely with Imran Khan.
As negotiations progress, the PTI's insistence on direct involvement from its founder underscores the party’s strategy to maintain centralized decision-making while pushing forward its demands for political reforms and Senate elections.
