Bilawal Supports 27th Amendment, Vows to Protect Field Marshal Post and 18th Amendment

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Wednesday reaffirmed his party’s support for the 27th Constitutional Amendment, highlighting its significance in strengthening Pakistan’s constitutional and democratic framework.

Speaking in the National Assembly, Bilawal said that the Field Marshal post will now receive constitutional protection, and stressed that no one can undo the 18th Amendment, regardless of political power. “We had decided at the time of the 18th Amendment to form a Constitutional Court, and today we are fulfilling that vision,” he remarked.

He also recalled past political cooperation, noting that parties including the PML-N and PPP had agreed on the Charter of Democracy. Bilawal criticized the opposition for focusing solely on party politics, stating, “The opposition’s job is not just to cry for its leader. They should support legislation and other measures for the nation.”

The PPP chairman praised the Pakistani army’s performance, saying the country’s military had earned international recognition. “The Pakistani army has not left Modi able to show his face in front of the world. After the defeat by Pakistan, India is hosting Afghan officials,” he noted.

Bilawal further stressed that the Constitutional Court will ensure equal provincial representation, rectifying past judicial imbalances. He described the 27th Amendment as a “historic success,” adding that it would end the misuse of suo motu powers by the judiciary.

He emphasized the importance of national unity and political dialogue. “We may have political differences, but we have to be one for the country. To reduce political tensions, we must keep doors open and move forward on the Charter of Democracy,” Bilawal asserted.

The chairman concluded by urging all political stakeholders to focus on combating terrorism and implementing reforms, stressing accountability of all parties to the nation.
