BNP Mengal Ends 20-Day Sit-In in Mastung, Announces Future Course of Action

After 20 days of protest at Lakpas area in Mastung, the Balochistan National Party (BNP) has decided to call off its sit-in. The announcement was made by BNP chief Akhtar Mengal, who said that the party would now shift its focus to protest rallies in various districts of Balochistan, considering the difficulties faced by the people during the sit-in.

End of Sit-In, Not the Movement:

While formally ending the sit-in, Akhtar Mengal made it clear that the movement is far from over. The BNP will continue its peaceful struggle through rallies in districts and a public relations campaign starting immediately.

“We believe in a peaceful struggle, and this is just a change in strategy. We have not ended our movement, we are simply adapting it to a more effective form,” Mengal said. He emphasized that the people’s voices will continue to be raised, with the movement growing stronger through public engagement.

Meeting in Quetta to Decide Next Steps:

The future course of action will be decided in a central cabinet meeting of the BNP, which is scheduled for April 18 in Quetta. This meeting will determine how the party moves forward with its agenda for Balochistan's rights and its opposition to the government’s policies.

Talks with Balochistan Government:

It’s noteworthy that the Balochistan government had engaged in several rounds of talks with the BNP to bring an end to the sit-in. However, despite these efforts, the party had initially decided to continue their protest until their demands were addressed. The shift from a sit-in to district rallies marks a new chapter in their ongoing struggle for Balochistan’s rights.

A New Phase of the Movement:

The BNP’s decision to focus on district-level rallies is expected to further mobilize local communities and ensure that the issue remains at the forefront of political discourse in Balochistan. This change also aims to minimize the disruptions caused by the sit-in while continuing to press for justice and peaceful change in the region.
