Pakistan has actively engaged with Afghanistan regarding the return of Afghan refugees, as Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry revealed that 84,769 Afghan refugees have returned to their home country since April 1, 2023. This development follows ongoing discussions between Pakistan and Afghanistan on bilateral issues, including refugee management and trade.

In a press conference, Talal Chaudhry highlighted Pakistan’s long-standing role in hosting Afghan refugees for over 40 years. He also mentioned that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in touch with the Afghan government, further solidifying Pakistan’s commitment to resolving the refugee crisis.

In the second phase, ACC card holders are also being sent back. According to Chaudhry, 25,000 ACC card holders have already returned to Afghanistan as part of this phase.

Afghan Minister of Industry and Commerce, Nooruddin Azizi, proposed the formation of a joint committee of Pak-Afghan international organizations to manage the process of Afghan refugees’ return. The proposal was discussed in a meeting between the Afghan delegation and Pakistani officials, including Talal Chaudhry and other ministry officials.
