POLITICS & POLICY MAKING

RAWALPINDI – In a significant development, police on Thursday detained several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders including Omar Ayub, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Ahmed Khan Bachhar, and three sisters of PTI founder Imran Khan near Adiala Jail.
The incident occurred when the group attempted to visit Imran Khan at the prison despite it not being a designated meeting day for family members, according to sources.
Eyewitnesses reported that Imran Khan’s sisters — Aleema Khan, Noreen Khanum, and Uzma Khanum — along with senior PTI leaders, were stopped at a police checkpoint near Adiala Jail. The group insisted on continuing their visit, prompting a heated exchange with law enforcement officials.
Arrest Warrants Presented
Police officers reportedly presented arrest warrants for seven individuals, including Imran Khan’s three sisters, cousin Qasim Khan, and PTI leaders Ahmed Khan Bachhar and Sahibzada Hamid Raza. Despite the police's warnings and legal explanation, the group refused to leave the area.
After persistent refusal and an attempt to proceed toward the jail, Rawalpindi police detained the individuals and placed them into a prisoner transport van.
“The group was taken into custody for violating protocol and refusing to comply with instructions despite being shown valid arrest warrants,” said a police official on condition of anonymity.
Not a Scheduled Meeting Day
Sources confirmed that Thursday was not scheduled as a family meeting day for Imran Khan, who remains incarcerated at Adiala Jail following multiple convictions and ongoing legal proceedings.
The attempted visit appears to have been made without prior coordination or permission, which led to the police action.
This latest development is likely to stir further political tensions as PTI continues to allege that party leadership and family members of Imran Khan are being unfairly targeted under the current regime.
