The brother of deceased actor and model Humaira Asghar Ali, whose decomposed body was discovered in her apartment in Karachi’s DHA Phase-VI earlier this week, arrived in the city on Thursday to take custody of her remains, police officials confirmed.
South DIG Syed Asad Raza said that Naveed Asghar, the actor’s brother, travelled from Lahore and met with South SSP Mahazoor Ali and Gizri SHO Farooq Ahmed Sanjrani to formally claim the body. Naveed expressed his intention to take his sister’s remains back to Lahore for burial.
This development comes after reports emerged that the family — particularly Humaira’s father — had initially refused to take the body for burial, prompting the Sindh Culture Department to offer assistance in arranging the funeral. Following the news, several fellow actors had also offered to take care of the burial arrangements.
DIG Raza said the body will be handed over to the brother, and that the police are still awaiting histopathological and chemical examination reports to determine the exact cause of death.
“If any signs of foul play are found, we will register an FIR and take legal action,” DIG Raza said.
The 42-year-old actor’s body was discovered in her apartment in the Ittehad Commercial area by police officers carrying out a court-ordered eviction, due to unpaid rent. Investigators believe she may have died over two weeks prior to the discovery.
Police had earlier tried to contact a purported friend of the deceased who shared details about her death on social media. However, attempts to reach the individual were unsuccessful, as her phone remained off.
