CTD Arrests Most-Wanted Terrorist Osama alias Baghi in Bannu

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday arrested a most-wanted terrorist, Osama alias Baghi, in an intelligence-based operation in the Pipal Bazaar area of Bannu district.

According to CTD Superintendent of Police Fazal Wahid, the suspect was an active commander of the newly formed militant group Ittehadul Mujahideen Pakistan (IMP), established through collaboration between the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Gul Bahadur group.

During initial interrogations, Osama confessed to his involvement in nine major terrorist activities, including:

  • The December 2025 attack on Miranshah Assistant Commissioner Shah Wali Khan, in which Khan, two security guards, and a civilian were killed.
  • The November 2025 abduction and murder of former Bannu station house officer Abid Wazir.
  • The killing of three members of the Lakki Marwat peace committee.
  • Kidnapping two Frontier Corps (FC) personnel and police officials from Pipal Daud Shah.
  • The June 2024 assassination of a polio officer and his guard in Mamand Khel.

The CTD also revealed that Osama was involved in reconnaissance of sensitive institutions, providing secret information and photographs of police personnel to terrorist groups, and establishing illegal checkpoints in Pipal Bazaar and surrounding areas to harass civilians.

Further operations are underway to apprehend his facilitators and associates, the SP said.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police and CTD Additional IG praised the team for the successful operation, calling it a significant step toward regional peace.

In a related operation, Domel police arrested two terrorists and three facilitators involved in sniper attacks at Nala Kashu and the Khonia Khel police post, which injured two police personnel, District Police Officer Yasir Afridi said.

These arrests mark a major crackdown on terrorist networks in the region and highlight ongoing efforts by Pakistani law enforcement to ensure public safety and stability.
