POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov to discuss bilateral relations and key regional and international developments.
According to a statement posted by the Foreign Office on X, the call took place while Dar was in London. Both leaders reviewed matters of mutual interest, including their participation in the inaugural Board of Peace meeting held in Washington.
Pakistan and Azerbaijan are among the founding members of the newly formed Board of Peace, established following diplomatic efforts led by the Trump administration in coordination with Qatar and Egypt. The initiative emerged after a ceasefire agreement was negotiated in October to halt two years of intense Israeli military operations in Gaza.
At the Washington meeting, US President Donald Trump pledged $10 billion in support, while five Muslim-majority countries — Morocco, Albania, Indonesia, Kazakhstan and Kosovo — offered funding and troop contributions for Gaza.
The second phase of the plan reportedly calls for the disarmament of Hamas as part of broader efforts to stabilise the conflict-hit region.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, speaking at the meeting, underscored the urgent need to end ceasefire violations in Gaza. He emphasised that ensuring adherence to the truce was “very important” for achieving sustainable and long-lasting peace in the war-affected Strip.
The conversation between Dar and Bayramov reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and contributing to international peace efforts through diplomatic engagement and multilateral cooperation.
