Deadly Gunfight in Tehkal Leaves Five Dead and Six Injured

A violent exchange of fire between two rival parties on Saturday claimed the lives of five individuals and injured six others in the Tehkal area of Peshawar.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Kashif Zulfiqar, the tragic incident stemmed from a longstanding personal enmity between the two groups. The altercation escalated near a bridge as one group was returning from a wedding ceremony and encountered the other.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Warsak Mukhtiar Khan confirmed that the gunfire resulted from a prior conflict over property disputes and previous murders. "Both sides had unresolved issues that led to today's deadly exchange," he said.

Police Response and Investigation
A heavy contingent of police was deployed to the area immediately after the incident. Law enforcement authorities are actively pursuing the suspects who fled the scene. SP Khan said investigations were underway to identify the individuals targeted and the extent of involvement from each side.

“No arrests have been made so far,” the SP added.

Recent Pattern of Violence
This is not the first instance of bloodshed resulting from personal enmities in Peshawar. Last month, five people, including three from the same family and two bystanders, were killed near Academy Town in a similar attack. That incident also stemmed from a blood feud between close relatives.

In that case, a family traveling in a vehicle was ambushed by their rivals. While one suspect, identified as Saboor, was apprehended by the Pishtakhara police, other attackers managed to escape.

A Call for Resolution
The recurring violence underscores the need for conflict resolution mechanisms and community engagement to address deeply rooted enmities. Police have urged citizens to report disputes early to prevent further escalations.

Authorities are continuing their efforts to track down the suspects and bring those responsible to justice. Meanwhile, the injured have been shifted to local hospitals for medical treatment, and the situation in the area remains tense but under control.
