Quetta Blast Kills Three, Injures 21 as Balochistan Faces Rising Violence

Quetta: A powerful explosion rocked Quetta, killing three people and injuring 21 others, including four policemen, as violence against security forces and civilians continues to rise in Balochistan.

According to Police Surgeon Dr. Ayesha Faiz, the casualties were shifted to Civil Hospital Quetta, where four injured individuals remain in critical condition. The blast occurred near a police vehicle, with authorities still determining the nature of the explosion. Balochistan Government Spokesperson Shahid Rind confirmed that security forces are investigating the incident.

Eyewitness footage circulating on social media showed a burning motorcycle next to a charred police pickup truck, while emergency sirens blared in the background. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Government’s Response

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the blast in the strongest terms, calling for an immediate investigation and vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“The elements spreading hatred in Balochistan are the enemies of development. We will never allow the evil intentions of miscreants to succeed,” the PM stated.

President Asif Ali Zardari also condemned the attack, expressing sorrow over the loss of lives.

“Such reprehensible actions during the blessed month of Ramadan reflect the sinister motives of terrorists,” his statement read.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi assured that security forces will thwart any attempts to destabilize the province, calling the attack a “heinous conspiracy.”

Escalating Security Threats in Balochistan

This latest attack comes just a week after a roadside bomb targeted a police vehicle on Quetta’s Brewery Road, killing an Anti-Terrorist Force (ATF) member and injuring six others.

Balochistan has seen a surge in violence, with separatist militant groups, including the outlawed Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), increasingly targeting security forces. Last year, Pakistan’s Interior Ministry noted a significant rise in terrorism following the Afghan Taliban’s takeover of Kabul in 2021.

Authorities are on high alert as investigations into the Quetta blast continue.
