Police Thwart Terror Attacks in Bajaur and Lakki Marwat Amid Rising Militancy

Pakistan has seen a surge in terror activities over the past year, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan, following the collapse of the ceasefire between the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the government in November 2022.

In a recent incident, a police vehicle belonging to Khar police station’s Station House Officer (SHO) Rashid Ahmed was targeted by an explosion near Tang Khatta Pul in Bajaur district. District Police Officer (DPO) Waqas Rafique confirmed that the bomb, planted on the roadside, heavily damaged the vehicle but fortunately caused no casualties.

"Police are at the scene, and security has been tightened across Bajaur. Entry and exit points are being monitored, and an investigation has been launched," DPO Rafique stated.

In a separate incident, law enforcement in KP’s Lakki Marwat district successfully disarmed an improvised explosive device (IED) planted along the Lakki Manjiwala road. Acting on intelligence reports, police discovered the bomb near Haji Gul Wanda within Lakki City police station’s jurisdiction.

A statement from the Lakki Marwat Police confirmed that DPO Muhammad Jawad Ishaq had ordered immediate action. A Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was dispatched to the site, where they strategically defused a 43-kilogramme explosive device.

Images released by the police depicted a large plastic drum filled with explosive material with wires protruding. A video from the scene showed signs of tampering with the road surface, suggesting that the device was buried after being dragged onto the road.

These incidents highlight the ongoing security threats in the region as authorities intensify efforts to combat terrorism. With increased vigilance and security operations, law enforcement remains committed to ensuring public safety.
