Dengue Spray Team Attacked by Residents in Rawalpindi, Two Suspects Detained

A dengue spray team in the Gul Afshan Colony of Dhamial area was attacked and threatened by a group of local residents. The health team, led by Manan Mahmood, was performing routine dengue control spray when they encountered unexpected resistance from a group of residents.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed at the Dhamial police station, health inspector Amir Sajjad received a distress call during his patrol duty, alerting him that his team was in trouble. Upon reaching a home in UC 12, the team knocked on the door, but the resident, identified as Arbaz Khan, initially responded but soon retreated indoors without any interaction. Shortly after, Khan reportedly returned with 15 others, and the group launched an assault on the dengue spray team, wielding iron rods and batons.

The attack was swift and brutal, with the assailants allegedly punching, kicking, and threatening the team with severe consequences. In the midst of the assault, one of the health team members managed to call emergency services. Responding promptly, police arrived at the scene, dispersing the group and securing the safety of the health workers. Authorities successfully detained two of the attackers, identified as Mohammad Riaz and Sher Ali, while the remaining suspects managed to escape.

Adding to the aggression, the complainant mentioned that a mobile phone belonging to one of the team members was taken and smashed during the confrontation.

In a separate development, the Punjab government has issued a strict ban on kite flying, as well as the manufacturing and selling of kites. To enforce the ban, authorities have instructed law enforcement to carry out active surveillance across the city. Special patrols, including the Dolphin Force and Muhafiz squads, have been deployed to monitor for illegal kite activities, with officers stationed on high-rise rooftops to maintain strict vigilance.

Officials have warned that any lapses in enforcing the ban will result in strict action against the responsible police personnel.

This dual action by the police—ensuring health worker safety amid dengue prevention efforts and enforcing the kite flying ban—reflects ongoing measures by the Punjab government to safeguard public health and maintain law and order.
