Former Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senator Chaudhry Tanveer Khan was sent to judicial jail for 14 days on Friday in connection with the murder case of former parliamentary secretary and PTI provincial assembly member, Adnan Chaudhry.
After completing a two-day physical remand, Tanveer was produced before Judicial Magistrate Ahsan Raza amid tight security. The police requested an extension of his physical remand to further the investigation. However, the court rejected the request and remanded him to jail until July 4, 2025.
Chaudhry Tanveer was arrested on Tuesday after voluntarily withdrawing his pre-arrest bail application before Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan of the Lahore High Court’s Rawalpindi bench. His legal team informed the court that he intended to join the police investigation, leading to his immediate arrest under the bail cancellation order issued by a subordinate court.
Subsequently, the former senator was presented before a local court, which granted the police a two-day physical remand to question him in custody.
In Friday’s hearing, Tanveer's counsel opposed the police’s demand for additional remand, stating that the accused had already cooperated with investigators and provided his formal statement. The court, agreeing with the defense's argument, sent the former senator to judicial custody.
The high-profile case has stirred political and public interest due to the serious nature of the charges and the prominent political affiliations of both the accused and the victim. Adnan Chaudhry, a Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) legislator and former parliamentary secretary, was reportedly murdered under circumstances now under judicial scrutiny.
Further proceedings are expected on July 4, when Tanveer Khan will be brought before the court again.
