A railway track near the national highway in the Notal area of Nasirabad was targeted with explosives by unknown individuals, authorities confirmed. The blast occurred when no train was passing, causing partial damage to the track but fortunately resulting in no casualties or property loss.
Police sources reported that the sound of the explosion was heard from a long distance, prompting a swift response by police and security forces. The area was immediately sealed off, and a search operation was launched to trace the perpetrators.
Due to the damage, train movement was temporarily suspended, although railway authorities began repair work promptly to restore normal operations. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and authorities have vowed to bring the culprits to justice.
Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti has taken notice of the incident and requested a detailed report from security agencies.
Security experts noted that repeated attacks on railway infrastructure in Balochistan are an attempt by miscreant elements to create instability in the province. The public has been urged to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station to help prevent further incidents.
This attack comes in the wake of several previous security incidents targeting railways in the province. In November, security forces defused a bomb containing over 3.5 kilograms of explosives near a railway track in Dera Murad Jamali, averting a major disaster. Earlier, in March, the Jaffar Express was hijacked near Sibi, resulting in the deaths of 21 passengers and four security personnel.
Railway officials have stressed that the temporary suspension of services is a precautionary measure, prioritizing the safety of passengers and staff over operational convenience. Key routes affected include the Jaffar Express (Quetta–Peshawar) and the Bolan Mail (Karachi-bound).
Authorities continue to investigate the attack and have reinforced security measures along vulnerable railway tracks in the province.
