Explosions and Violence in Khyber and North Waziristan Injure Police and Destroy Girls' School

Three police personnel were injured in an explosion in the Tirah valley of Khyber district early on Monday, while a government middle school for girls was destroyed in North Waziristan.

The explosion in the Serrai Kandaw area occurred when an explosive device planted on the road detonated as the car carrying Khushal Amin, the in-charge of the Serrai Kandaw check post, and two of his companions approached. The vehicle was badly damaged. The injured police personnel were transported to a local hospital, where their condition was reported to be stable.

A police team led by SHO Tirah initiated a search operation in the area, but no arrests have been made yet. A case has been registered against unknown miscreants.

In a separate incident on Sunday night, a government middle school for girls in Zerki village, tehsil Mirali, North Waziristan, was destroyed in an explosion. Local residents reported that unknown individuals entered the Government Girls Middle School Zerki and detonated an explosive device, resulting in significant damage to the school building. The school had around 400 enrolled students. Residents are demanding enhanced security for all girls’ schools in the district.

This incident follows similar attacks on girls’ schools in the region. On May 29, Golden Arrow Girls Middle School was set on fire in Shakhimar village, and on May 8, Afia Islamic Girls Public School was blown up.

In another incident in Tappi village, tehsil Miramshah, North Waziristan, three family members, including two brothers, were killed, and one was injured in an exchange of fire between two groups over a local issue. The bodies and the injured were taken to a local hospital, and an investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, police in Khyber district arrested the young son of an SHO for indiscriminate firing in the Bagh Markaz market area, causing fear among local traders and shopkeepers. The motive behind the unprovoked firing remains unclear, but the man was taken into custody following a complaint from local traders.
