Fauji Fertilizer Joins Arif Habib Consortium in PIA Privatization

Fauji Fertilizer Company (FFC) has formally joined the Arif Habib Consortium in the privatization process of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), according to a statement issued by the consortium on Thursday.

The statement confirmed that Fauji Fertilizer’s inclusion would strengthen the consortium’s financial backing and corporate expertise, aimed at reviving and restructuring the national flag carrier. The Arif Habib Consortium had earlier secured 75 per cent shares of PIA after submitting the highest bid of Rs135 billion.

Under the agreement, Fauji Fertilizer Company will become part of the airline’s administrative and management structure alongside the Arif Habib Consortium. The statement added that an investment of Rs125 billion would be made during the first year to upgrade ground operations and improve service efficiency.

The consortium expressed confidence that the partnership would play a key role in stabilising PIA’s operations and improving its long-term sustainability through professional management and enhanced operational capacity.

It is worth noting that during the privatization process, the Arif Habib Consortium emerged as the top bidder, offering Rs135 billion for a 75pc stake in the national airline, while the Lucky Consortium came second with a bid of Rs134 billion.
