The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced an extension in the deadline for manual income tax return filing until November 30, providing taxpayers additional time to submit their returns amid the ongoing transition to a fully digital tax system.
According to the official statement, the FBR has established special facilitation cells in tax offices across the country to assist individuals filing their returns manually. These cells are designed to help taxpayers navigate the process while encouraging a gradual shift toward online filing in the future.
The move is part of FBR’s broader strategy to digitize the tax system across Pakistan, aiming to improve efficiency, transparency, and ease of compliance. The board clarified that manual tax return filing will be discontinued starting from the tax year 2024, marking a complete shift to online submissions.
However, acknowledging the difficulties faced by some taxpayers in adapting to digital systems, the FBR has introduced temporary relief measures. The facilitation cells will provide both legal and technical assistance to help manual filers complete their returns and transition smoothly to the new system.
Officials emphasized that the extension aims to ensure that taxpayers do not face penalties or inconvenience during the adjustment period. The FBR urged all taxpayers to make use of the special facilities and prepare for a fully digital tax filing process in the coming fiscal year.
