FM Dar Highlights Pakistan’s Diplomatic Milestones and Economic Prospects at Islamabad Presser

Islamabad: Foreign Minister Dar held a press conference today, detailing the government’s efforts to stabilize Pakistan’s economy and elevate its global presence through active diplomatic engagements.

Addressing the media, FM Dar emphasized that Pakistan’s assumption of a two-year term as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (2025–26) marks a significant milestone in the country’s foreign policy.

Highlighting diplomatic advancements during the government’s first ten months, Dar stated that high-level exchanges and international participation had dispelled the “isolated Pakistan” narrative. Key developments included participation in the Nuclear Energy Summit, World Economic Forum in Saudi Arabia, and the OIC summit in Gambia, along with hosting the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.

FM Dar revealed that $29 billion in potential investments are expected due to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's successful engagements with leaders from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Azerbaijan. Additionally, the OIC's recent appointment of a special envoy on Islamophobia stemmed from Pakistan’s persistent advocacy.

Dar also underlined Pakistan’s staunch support for Palestine, condemning Israeli aggression and contributing aid to Gaza, Syria, and Lebanon. “We remain among the few nations advocating for UN resolutions on Palestine and the ICJ ruling,” he said.

The minister announced an upcoming UK monitoring team visit in January, which could pave the way for the resumption of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights to the UK. With the European Union lifting its ban on PIA, optimism for expanded connectivity is high.

Looking ahead, Dar stated that Pakistan’s tenure at the UN Security Council would focus on enhancing diplomatic outreach, promoting dispute resolution, and upholding the UN Charter.

He also addressed domestic security challenges, attributing the resurgence of terrorism to the previous government’s policies, and called for a cooperative approach to trade relations with India. “It takes two to tango,” he remarked, urging India to foster an improved environment for dialogue.
