A deadly blast targeting a security forces’ vehicle in the Margate area of Quetta claimed the lives of four Frontier Constabulary (FC) personnel and injured three others, police confirmed on Friday.
According to Hanna Urak Station House Officer Naveed Akhtar, the attack was carried out using an improvised explosive device (IED), apparently targeting a bomb disposal squad unit. The explosion occurred as the personnel were traveling in a security vehicle on routine duty in a suburban area of Quetta.
The martyred personnel have been identified as Subedar Shahzad Amin, Naib Subedar Abbas, Sepoy Khalil, and Sepoy Zahid. The injured — Lance Naik Zafar, Lines Naik Farooq, and Sepoy Khurram Saleem — were promptly shifted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) for medical treatment.
Following the attack, security forces launched a search operation in the vicinity to apprehend those responsible.
The attack comes amid a worrying surge in militant violence across Pakistan, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A recent report from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) highlighted a sharp increase in attacks, reporting 105 militant incidents in March alone — the highest monthly total since 2014. The violence claimed 228 lives, including 73 security personnel and 67 civilians.
Pakistan has also been ranked second in the Global Terrorism Index 2025, with a 45% surge in terrorism-related deaths, reaching 1,081 over the past year.
Condemnations from National Leaders
President Asif Ali Zardari strongly condemned the blast and paid tribute to the martyred FC soldiers. In a statement issued by the President’s House, he said:
“The entire nation salutes its martyrs and acknowledges their sacrifices. We reiterate our resolve to root out terrorism in all its forms.”
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also condemned the attack, terming it a "heinous conspiracy" aimed at destabilizing the country. In a post shared by the Ministry of Interior on X, Naqvi offered condolences to the families of the martyred and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.
“The FC personnel attained the great status of martyrdom. We salute their sacrifice. Their role in ensuring peace in Balochistan will never be forgotten,” he said.
The attack is a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by militant groups, and the sacrifices made by Pakistan’s security forces in their ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security across the country.
