Four LNG Cargoes to Arrive Within Five Days, Loadshedding to End After Qatar Gas Supply: Owais Leghari
Federal Energy Minister Owais Leghari has announced that four LNG cargoes from Qatar are expected to reach Pakistan within the next five days, offering potential relief to the country’s ongoing power crisis.
Speaking during a television program, the minister said that loadshedding would effectively come to an end once the gas supply from Qatar is received. He added that the current duration of power outages has already been reduced to around one to one-and-a-half hours in many areas.
However, the situation across the country remains challenging as rising temperatures have led to a surge in electricity demand, resulting in increased unannounced power outages.
The national power shortfall has reportedly reached around 4,000 megawatts, causing prolonged electricity disruptions in multiple cities. In Karachi, several areas are facing outages lasting up to 10 hours, while residents in Rawalpindi are experiencing between 8 to 10 hours of loadshedding.
In Islamabad, power cuts of up to 6 hours have been reported, while parts of Lahore are seeing outages ranging from 5 to 6 hours. Similarly, in Peshawar, urban areas are dealing with around 6 hours of loadshedding, while suburban regions are facing outages extending up to 14 hours.
Authorities are hopeful that the arrival of LNG shipments will stabilize the energy supply and significantly reduce power outages across the country.
