France Declines Participation in Strait of Hormuz Operation, Macron Says

French President Emmanuel Macron has stated that France will not participate in any military operation to reopen the Strait of Hormuz amid ongoing Middle East tensions.

“France is not a party to this conflict and will not participate in any operation to open the Strait of Hormuz in the current situation,” Macron said. He added that Paris is working on creating a coalition to guarantee freedom of navigation once the current tensions subside.

This comes after British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer similarly confirmed that the UK will not join such an operation. Both statements underline the reluctance of European powers to become directly involved in potential military action in the Gulf, even as regional security risks continue to threaten global shipping lanes.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a strategic chokepoint for global oil shipments, and the latest statements signal European efforts to avoid escalation while promoting diplomatic solutions.
