Gandapur Vows Legal Action Over Reserved Seats, Says Govt Stable

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur on Saturday dismissed rumours about instability in the provincial government, saying that the propaganda regarding failure to present the budget originated from within his own party ranks.

Speaking to media in Peshawar, the CM stated,

“If the budget hadn’t passed, the government would’ve fallen—and that would’ve been our own fault.”

He confirmed that the party’s patron-in-chief has expressed satisfaction over the budget’s passage. While acknowledging that two members abstained from voting, Gandapur hinted at external influence, saying, “Everyone knows whose people they are.”

Legal Action Over Reserved Seats

Gandapur also announced his intention to approach the courts over the issue of reserved seats, stating he had filed his nomination papers under the PTI banner, not as an independent.

“I am not independent. I wrote 'PTI' in my nomination papers,” he emphasized, reinforcing his party affiliation.

He further noted that after the Supreme Court’s constitutional bench ruling, the earlier verdict denying PTI reserved seats has effectively been overturned.

Senate Elections & No-Confidence Rumors

Commenting on the upcoming July 21 Senate elections, the chief minister said the provincial government is fully stable and unified.

“The government is strong, no member is going anywhere,” Gandapur said, warning that those pushing for a no-confidence motion would soon face the "reality."

He added that while all assembly members are technically independent, the party is intact in spirit and commitment.

Swat River Tragedy & Compensation

Speaking about the recent Swat River tragedy near Daska, Gandapur revealed that the victims’ families had demanded government jobs. However, he clarified that KP government jobs cannot be granted based on Punjab domicile.

Instead, he proposed compensation of Rs 2 million per deceased and even suggested how the funds could be used to support the families through small business ventures.

Afghan Citizenship & Trade

On foreign relations, Gandapur emphasized the need to revive trade ties with Afghanistan, criticizing the inconsistency of those who seek foreign citizenship themselves but oppose granting the same to Afghans.

“They are running for other countries’ citizenship while denying Afghans the same,” he remarked.

Gandapur’s comments reflect a multi-pronged approach to governance, balancing legal battles, political stability, humanitarian support, and regional economic engagement.
