The federal government has imposed a strict ban on the release of annual interim revenue figures, citing confidentiality requirements under the ongoing International Monetary Fund (IMF) program, according to official sources.
The decision restricts any person or institution — including government departments — from publishing full or partial revenue data without prior and explicit approval from the Ministry of Finance.
Sources revealed that unauthorized sharing of revenue data with the public, media, or external parties will be treated as a serious violation of the IMF program’s confidentiality terms.
“The premature release of interim figures can impact the IMF review process and damage the credibility and outcome of the ongoing economic program,” one source stated.
The government has decided that all revenue statistics will remain confidential until the first program review is completed. Only finalized and approved figures will be released via official channels once cleared by the relevant authorities.
This move is aimed at ensuring data consistency, reducing speculative reporting, and protecting the integrity of Pakistan’s commitments under the IMF agreement.
The restriction comes at a time when Pakistan is navigating a sensitive fiscal recovery path, with key revenue and reform targets forming the basis of IMF disbursements and program continuity.
